A note on volunteering in Winter 2020-21:
Our winter accommodation provision this year will necessarily be different from our usual model. Due to Covid-19 a roaming communal shelter with teams of volunteers at different locations across the city is not viable at this time. However, we are committed to ensuring we can help the homeless this winter in a way that is safe for our guests, volunteers and staff. We are in the process of undertaking a comprehensive review of all our operations in light of changing guidance from central and local government, Public Health England and agencies in the sector. When we are ready to launch our winter operations details will be announced here and on our Facebook page.
What can I do?
Every day throughout a regular winter season we require teams of volunteers at our reception café and our accommodation venues. There are many different roles, both interacting with our guests and supporting behind the scenes.
- Supporting our welfare team
- Greeting and chatting
- Serving food
- Washing up
- Making cups of tea
- Eating together
- Packing up
- Making beds
- Meal planning
- Overnight supervision
Meals are catered for both volunteers and guests, and dinners/breakfasts are shared together.
Night owls and early risers are always especially needed.
