Rebuilding Lives

People arrive at the Winter Night Shelter for many reasons. They can be old or young, men and women. Some are long term homeless, but many are the victims of circumstance. They may have deteriorating domestic issues, They may have lost jobs and no longer be able to pay for accommodation. Illness and disability are also factors that make people homeless.

Sometimes those living rough may have lost or had stolen their identity documents. Without an address or documents they are unable to get work.

The Welfare Officer and their team works to get guests into accommodation. This can be into the YMCA hostel, YMCA flats, private accommodation, housing schemes and other long term help organisations such as Emmaus.

The Welfare Officer also helps to replace lost documents and negotiate benefits for those not able to do so by themselves so that they have a chance to rebuild their lives.

These pictures show individuals who have been helped into accomodation and/or work.
